Description:This PBS documentary on Western Philosophy was produced in response to the 9/11 terror attacks. It makes the case for the West and in particular the West's pluralistic approach to reasoning and morality. Interviews with nine clear thinkers give an introduction to Western Philosophy.  Subjects introduced include building up a moral system, the golden rule, the basics of logic (premise and inference) and pluralism.  The ideas of Plato, Aristotle, Otto Neurath, Kierkegaard, Wittgenstein and John Rawls are discussed. FEATURING: Akeel Bilgrami, Taylor Carman, Arthur Danto, Virginia Held, Diana Meyers, Susan Neiman, Bernard Reginster, Richard Rorty & Achille Varzi.

The video above is provided through Alexander Street and is available to students through a subscription provided by Woodward Library. A search for Philosophy results in access to thousands of videos with captions included. Students will need to authenticate with their library username and password when accessing these titles off-campus. A new tool from ASP called Video Interaction Functionality is now available to faculty members. This functionality promotes student engagement by allowing professors to embed assessment and pedagogical tools within the videos.

Description: Today Hank begins to teach you about Philosophy by discussing the historical origins of philosophy in ancient Greece, and its three main divisions: metaphysics, epistemology, and value theory. He will also introduce logic, and how you’re going to use it to understand and critically evaluate a whole host of different worldviews throughout this course. And also, hopefully, the rest of your life.
