Felix G. Woodward Library has been selected to participate in the Let’s Talk About It (LTAI): Women’s Suffrage grant program sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Let’s Talk About It is “a scholar-led reading and discussion program that involves reading a common series of books chosen by national scholars and discussing them in the context of a larger, overarching theme.” The Woodward Library is one of 25 libraries across the country selected to participate in this grant program, and the only library selected in Tennessee.
Each event highlights one of the five books in the LTAI: Women’s Suffrage program, and a local scholar facilitates the discussion to talk about the book and its themes. Reading the program book is highly recommended, but not a requirement for attending the event.
The remaining three discussion events will be centered on the following books:
Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All by Martha S. Jones (Facilitated by Dr. Paula White and LaNeeça Williams) - Thursday, July 21 at 5 p.m. at the Office of Equity, Access and Inclusion (OEAI), located at 416 College St.
Ida B. the Queen: The Extraordinary Life and Legacy of Ida B. Wells by Michelle Duster (Facilitated by Professor Eboné Amos) - Thursday, September 1 at 5 p.m. at the Office of Equity, Access and Inclusion (OEAI), located at 416 College St.
The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow (Facilitated by Dr. Jill Eichhorn and Professor Elaine Berg) – Thursday, September 29 at 5 p.m. at the Office of Equity, Access and Inclusion (OEAI), located at 416 College St.
All events are free and open to the public.
