Homeless Booklist: Introduction

Resources to support homeless students and community members

Introduction / Description of Topic

In a 2020 nation-wide survey of basic needs at two and four-year academic institutions, the Wisconsin HOPE Lab found that nearly 3 in 5 university students experienced basic needs insecurity, 48% experienced housing insecurity, and 14% reported being homeless within the past year. This guide provides resources for those experiencing housing insecurity as well as those who want to learn more about this population.

If you are experiencing housing or food insecurity, consider contacting these campus organizations:

  • SOS Food Pantry
A donation-based food pantry that supplies supplemental food to
those in need at Austin Peay State University.
  • SOS Emergency Funds
Emergency funds that can cover unexpected financial hardship.
  • TRiO Student Support Services
Provides academic and financial support services to first generation
    students and low income students.
  • Veterans Upward Bound
A free program offering academic assistance to first generation veteran
    and low income veterans.
