On Monday, Aug. 26, the Woodward Library, in partnership with the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi (PKP), hosted a productive Peayple in the Community - Day of Service.
The primary focus of the day was to prepare for PKP's annual "Candy for the Mind" early literacy initiative for the upcoming G.H.O.S.T. event. Volunteers worked tirelessly to clean, sort, and organize hundreds of donated children's books, ensuring they'll be ready for distribution to local children in October.
Each year, PKP Chapter 191 distributes hundreds of books to children in our community through their "Candy for the Mind" program, making a significant impact on early literacy efforts.
We're particularly excited to note that APSU's PKP
Chapter 191 received the 2023 Fall Service Project Award in its division from the PKP national office, a direct result of their outstanding work on "Candy for the Mind." This recognition underscores the importance and effectiveness of this initiative in promoting childhood literacy.
The enthusiasm demonstrated by our volunteers yesterday was truly inspiring. Their efforts will help ensure that local children have access to books, fostering a love for reading that can last a lifetime.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the Peayple in the Community - Day of Service. Your time and energy will make a real difference in the lives of children in our community.
